
Founded in 1920, it is a Grade-A tertiary comprehensive teaching hospital with distinctive academic disciplines and core competitiveness. It houses four academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and has been recognized as a Shanghai Civilized Unit for 14 consecutive years, receiving the National Civilized Unit designation in 2020. It serves as the National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases. Its Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery ranks first nationally, the Department of Stomatology ranks third, and its Otolaryngology, Orthopedics, and Ophthalmology departments are among the top in the country. It has established long-term exchange partnerships with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Johns Hopkins Hospital in the United States.
